Do I need to download an app?
No. Farmy runs entirely inside WhatsApp. The dashboard on this website is optional, for a richer view of the same data.
How does logging in on the website relate to WhatsApp?
You log in with the same WhatsApp number you message Farmy from, using a one-time code sent to that number. If you haven't messaged Farmy on WhatsApp yet, message it first - the website doesn't create new accounts on its own.
Is my farm data private?
Yes. Your farm, finance, and diagnosis data is only visible to you when logged in, and to a small internal team for support. It is never sold or shared.
What counties and languages are supported?
Farmy is built around Kenyan farming conditions and county-level agricultural data, with support for English and Swahili.
Is there a cost?
Farmy is free during its current beta period, with no card required. We'll message you on WhatsApp before anything about pricing changes, and you can export your farm records at any time.
What if I don't have a smartphone or a stable connection?
Farmy works through WhatsApp, so you do need a phone that runs WhatsApp and a connection good enough to send and receive messages - there is no SMS or USSD version yet. You don't need to be online at the same time as Farmy, though: send your message whenever you have signal, and the reply will be waiting when you're back.
Which crops and livestock does Farmy support?
On the crop side Farmy recognises around thirty crops commonly grown in Kenya - maize, beans, potatoes, tomatoes, kale, cabbage, onions, bananas, coffee, tea, avocado, mango, sorghum, wheat, rice, millet, groundnuts, cassava, sweet potato, sugarcane and more, including fodder crops like Napier and lucerne. On the animal side it covers dairy and beef cattle, goats, sheep, pigs and poultry in full, with rabbits, fish, bees and trees recorded but not yet backed by follow-up guidance. If you record something Farmy doesn't have specific advice for, it will say so rather than invent an answer.
Can I manage more than one farm?
Yes - Farmy stores farms separately, keeps every record attached to the right one, and the web dashboard shows a farm switcher once you have more than one. There isn't a self-serve way to add a second farm yet, so message us on WhatsApp and we'll set it up with you.
Is Farmy a replacement for a vet or an agronomist?
No, and it won't pretend to be. Farmy records what you observe, recalls an animal's or crop's history, and gives general things to check. When it sees a sign that could be serious - blood, an animal that can't stand, difficulty breathing - it tells you to contact a vet rather than offering a diagnosis. For anything serious, or anything that isn't improving, get a qualified vet or extension officer to look at it in person.
What happens if Farmy's advice is wrong?
Farmy can be wrong, and it's built to make that easy to catch rather than easy to miss. It labels what it was told, what it worked out and what it is only estimating; it names the source when guidance comes from KALRO or the Ministry of Agriculture rather than from your own farm; and it declines to answer when the records don't support one. Treat it as a well-informed assistant that keeps your farm's history, not as a final authority - and if something looks wrong, tell it, and it will correct the record.
Is there a person I can talk to if I get stuck?
The same WhatsApp number you message Farmy on is also how you reach us - there is no separate support line or email address. A small internal team can see conversations in order to help when something goes wrong, and that team is the only other group with access to your farm data.
